What is infrared?
Infrared is the band of light we perceive as heat. Our sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared segment of the spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air in-between, through a process called conversion.
How does it benefit us?
Because infrared rays penetrate the body over 1-1/2 inches throughout conversion, there is a deep heating effect in the muscle tissues and internal organs without giving too much burden to our heart.
Our body reacts to the increased heating through the natural cooling process of perspiring. Through the perspiration process, acid and waste residue like toxins, sodium, alcohol, nicotine, cholesterol and the potentially carcinogenic heavy metals are removed from the cells (especially zinc, lead, nickel, cadmium, etc). As well as the pores of our skin opening and discharging waste products, the skin sheds any old skin cells, leaving it glowing and immaculately clean, with improved tone, elasticity, texture and color.
The deep penetrating heat also stimulates the heart to send more blood to the body cells to increase blood circulation, which improves many symptoms. There are many clinical studies that support the health benefits of infrared therapy as a method of healing.

Here are some of the possible benefits of using an Infrared Sauna.
Lower Blood Pressure
A University of Missouri, Kansas City study found saunas to be clinically proven to lower diastolic and systolic blood pressure. Infrared sauna therapy is both safe & effective in recovering damaged blood vessels & improving heart functions, suggesting regular sessions offer a preventive role for heart disease, especially in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol. Infrared sauna therapy reduces blood pressure by dilating blood vessels and decreasing the volume of their inner lining, thus increasing circulation to promote healthy blood pressure.
If you can maintain a healthy weight, you increase your likelihood of a longer, healthier life. When it comes to infrared heat’s ability to help burn calories, only Healthmate saunas have been clinically shown to aid in weight loss. Results from a 2009 study indicated that infrared saunas are beneficial for lowering weight and waist circumference in just a 3 month period. Another study showed that 30 minute infrared sauna sessions can burn upwards of 600 calories. As the body works to cool itself in an infrared saunas, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories.
Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal & stay healthy…and our sauna is designed for the deepest, most detoxifying sweat. The leading detoxification principle is that illnesses can be caused by the build-up of toxic substances. Ridding the body of these toxins can help relieve symptoms, prevent illness and increase overall health & vitality. Infrared Sauna usage is one of the most effective methods of inducing a detoxifying sweat.
One of the most compelling reasons to use an infrared sauna is the natural pain relief associated with its use. Infrared heat works by penetrating joints, muscles and tissues, increasing circulation and speeding oxygen flow. For years, doctors have recommended infrared saunas because of proven relief from sports injury, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, arthritis and other chronic pain conditions. A 2003 study showed that use of infrared heat therapy helped the production of white blood cells to alleviate inflammation and reduce swelling, two key factors in easing bodily pain.
Improved Circulation & Cell Health
Stay healthy with the natural preventive properties of infrared saunas in cell health, muscle recovery and overall immunity defense. Infrared therapy stimulates the circulatory system, causing the heart to beat more vigorously and blood vessels to dilate, which help cleanse the circulatory system and more fully oxygenate the body’s cells. Better blood circulation means more toxins flow from the cellular level to the skin’s surface to improve cell health, aid in muscle recovery and strengthen the immune system. “Regardless of the extent of the injury, someone who regularly uses this type of sauna will recover faster,” explains Dr. Jeffrey Spencer, a sports medicine expert. “It doesn’t add additional stress to the body or the injury. It actually works with the body to heal.”
Aides in Clearing Cellulite
Infrared saunas help clear ugly cellulite, the gel-like lumps of fat, water and debris trapped in pockets beneath the skin. European beauty specialists routinely incorporate daily saunas in programs to reduce cellulite. And because the radiant heat of the infrared sauna warms three times as deeply as conventional saunas, it is significantly more effective at reducing cellulite.
Relaxation & Stress Relief
Infrared saunas have been designed to encourage a lifetime of use through the purest form of relaxation and stress-reduction. Cortisol–a “fight or flight” hormone produced by the body–increases with stress, raising heart rate & blood pressure and leading to the deposit of excess calories in the midsection. Scientific evidence shows that infrared therapy helps the body maintain healthy levels of cortisol. In fact, infrared saunas have been clinically shown to reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure with regular use. Through the use of our infrared sauna you can enhance your other spa treatments to help aide you to relieve stress, ease muscles and fully relax.
